Chronic absenteeism is pervasive: as many as one in six students in the United States miss enough school to be considered chronically absent, according to the US Department of Education. The negative effects of absenteeism on a student’s education can be profound, and can often carry into adulthood.
The harmful impact of chronic absenteeism threatens all students, but the risks are not born equally. Students of color, students who live in poverty, and students with chronic health conditions or disabilities all experience disproportionately high absence rates.
The Helping Youth Proclaim Excellence (HYPE) incentive program is focused on providing an opportunity for students who may be facing attendance challenges in high school and are interested in recording their music in an industry standard recording studio.
The program offers “studio buck” certificates to schools, to give to students as a reward for attendance improvement. Improvement can be defined in many ways and will be determined on an individual basis. After enrollment, participants will be provided a personal improvement plan that will outline reachable goals. These goals will determine the milestones by which the participant will earn “Studio Buck” Certificates.
Goals of the HYPE Program:
When you donate $60 you will receive a profile on the participant you are sponsoring and periodic updates on their progress in the program.
